Hi, I ran to the same issue as Salmandor with UT3s: after system update and reboot ubuntu 15.04 would welcome me with a blank screen. However, while there was still no video output from UT3s I tried switching between virtual consoles and with Ctrl+Alt+F7 key combination HDMI output wakes up, desktop is shown and you realize Ubuntu has been running all the time in the background. Switching back to Android through the shortcut also works without problems. I hope this tip helps everyone else out there with the same problem. The only problem now is you have to press the mentioned key combination after every reboot to ubuntu. It's annoying and if somebody knows a way around this please let us all know.

@jppx1967 I also have the same problem, ugoos UT3S boots with xubuntu out of the box but when you update linux via system update, after the update UT3S will not boot, only black screen. I switched to revory mode and performed a factory reset and boot with android. After that I tried to switch to linux but again ended up with a black screen. Recent dual boot firmware also has issues with android. Chrome stops working, task bar freezes and becomes inaccesable etc,

Sorry, my message earlier have mistakes. My UT3S when I ON it, - can't to find my monitor, HDMI connection, I need for beginning to open tv box, and later - on my monitor, then is OK Same problem if screen saving option on, I need off and on my monitor, after that is OK. Into the settings I sets full HD on the tv box. Probably, I must to set auto? Or its problem occure from another cause?

OK - I've got the xubuntu crash after updates fixed. It's xubuntu itself. Get a fresh linux boot on the UT3S, and then switch of auto update of a new version of xubuntu. Applications >> Setting >> Sodtware & Updates >> Updates Tab. Change the 'Notify me of a new Ubuntu version' to 'Never'. This allows the UT3S to get back into linux afer a reboot.

The UT3S worked out of the box perfectly. It booted to Android, and then I booted in xubuntu...and thats were the problems began. I thought I'd update the linux and things go fine. Then an error appears, but its not fatal so I reboot...to a black screen. The unit never comes back. OK - Get the tools from ugoos and reflash the dual boot image. (Terrible documentation on this) So I do it all again and update it again. Guess what - same problem again. This unit does NOT seem to be stable in Xubuntu at all. If you update it will not reboot back into linux. Has anyone else had this issue?

For the problem of resize of screen, you must click on the left top corner (as blind), and in the menu, you can find the settings > ugoos scaler screen

This is a good option for the UT3(S), and great for those with 16GB boxes. Boots incredibly quick from uSD card. Runs very well too. Good work team Ugoos.

hi, I need to know as you start Ubuntu from Ugoos UT32S, once I entered the sdcard, what's the next step?...

@ Edward: Thats strange. I installed this usb version and my ut3s connects normally. the network manager works fine with ethernet. did you enabled the auto connect when reachable in networks settings? @ Mark: thats should be normal. installing a distribution like that is more like making a 1to1 copy of the partition of one sd card on another. you should be able to resize the partition to full sd size. i recommend another linux system, windows is not that well with standard programms to edit partitions. you could also try to change the partition with the ugoos itself, but i think i can remember i had troubles changing the size of the actual used partition, maybe you can just add a second partition with the rest space of the sd card.

Hi, I've written the image to an 8GB micro sdcard and my UT3S boots from it, but the filesystem is only 2gb with only 48MB free, which makes it rather unusable. Is there a way to make use of the complete 8GB of the sdcard?

I purchased a UT3S (Dualboot, 16GB) as a replacement for an aging desktop PC. It is my intent to go 100% ARM and I am already 100% Linux (Slackware and BSD)on other devices. The box worked perfectly when I started it in Android, networking immediately, but when I booted int Ubuntu Linux, it could not find the wired ethernet connection to my router. Two days later, I have not succeeded in obtaining a connection. I have been a Unix user and sysadm for more than 20 years, and I cannot find the problem, though the version of Ubuntu has none of the familiar network setup sofware installed except NetworkManager and it will not start. I would hate to have to download source code using Android and then compile and link it in Linux just to get the network running. Has anyone else had this difficulty? It is my intention, once it's networked under Ubuntu, never to look at Android again.

@Chapshan, In linux, you also can scale your screen. For that you need open Application-> Settings->Ugoos screen Scaler

  • Comment by Chapshan | Thursday, Oct 22 2015, 09:20AM

Hi, I was testing this OS on my Ugoos Ut3s and unfortunately it doesn't support my screen very well. When booted into Xubuntu, My screen was out of scale and the borders cannot be seen well (this is a picture from the internet I found with a similar symptoms: http://i.stack.imgur.com/okU1u.jpg). I have a Hisense 24" TV screen, and the only resolution I can get from the 'Display' menu is 1920x1080 (which make this out-of-scale isuue). On the Android version of the device, I could adjust the screen borders with the unique sub-menu that you added to the settings, but with the Xubuntu version I can't find such an option. Can you help with that?

Are you planning to make a dual boot firmware containing Android 4.4 with Ubuntu 15.04?
