Ugoos firmware v.3.0.2.b for UT3, UM3, UT3S based on Android 5.1.1

Since last Android 5.1.1 firmware release less than 3 weeks past, so now we have new Firmware version 3.0.2.

We added some new features and raise up stability.

The first user-friendly feature is OTA update support:

Rather simple and comprehensible feature let you be in touch with latest firmware updates for your Ugoos device. You can check updates by yourself or turn on auto-update and device do all the job by itself: offer you to download new firmware when there will be a new one on our servers. So since that version there is no need to use batch tool and reflash your device manually.

The second new feature is multi-window function. Powered by Rockchip for Android 5.1.1 this feature allows you to share a screen into few parts for different apps.

Multi-window feature activated in main settings menu, display submenu.

After activating this feature we see that bottom bar changes its appearance. Now there is a button down left corner that allows you to access application menu. Bottom bar turns into a status bar and we can see opened applications and switch among them. All displayed apps get additional upper bar with 3 common and well known buttons: minimize to tray, extend and close. Extend button allows to choose 3 different sizes. Though some apps don’t let resize your window and turns into book orientation after activating this function.

Another interesting function is an advanced screenshotting feature. It runs only in multi-screen mode, after activation in settings menu. After activating screenshotting button appeared on the bottom bar. It allows you to choose 4 different screenshot feature:

  1. Static screenshot – makes a simple picture of a working space on the screen. In this mode you can customize screenshot area.
  2. Dynamic screenshot - allows you to choose a resizable window for making a small video in mp4 format or gif image. Additional settings let you customize frame rate and choose duration in seconds

  1. Whole screenshot – makes a picture of the whole screen with bars and context menus.
  2. Comment mode - allows to write some notes using air mouse right on the screen and save them with screenshot.

Full changelog

  1. Fixed bug with Developer Options menu item.
  2. Fixed unexpected reboot during separate web cameras using.
  3. Added basic multi-window support function.
  4. Improved video playback in side players (MXPlayer now use hardware decoders for video playback)
  5. “Close all active apps” button added in “recent apps” window, also all apps can be closed using “menu” button on RC
  6. Long hold button function added. Holding “menu” – bars appeared and disappeared; “recent apps” button activate/deactivate air mouse function mode.
  7. OTA updates support added.

The pdf directs me to click on the "Firmware" button and specify the path of the new "firmware file". When I try this there isn't a firmware file in the base directory to select. I've also tried the files in the image folder (not sure I'm supposed to do this) but they won't load either. The pdf shows an image file from the base directory with a name like "ut3_dualboot_Android...". I don't have a file like that, all I have in the downloaded folders are files like recovery, system, resorce, etc... in the image folder.

Jeremy, Look at the last page of the guide. Once it finds the loader, mouse right click and select 'load config' The config file points to the image.

Thanks cjeman. I've never done this before and was afraid of messing up my machine. I was stuck on the last sentence that tells you to click the Upgrade button to the firmware of your device. I was loading the config file, then switching to firmware and hitting upgrade. It should read...load the config file then press the Run button. Everything works great now.

Any news on when the final release will come out? It's been getting kinda quiet around here. Or is the beta stable enough for everyday use?

  • Comment by cjeman | Saturday, Jan 9 2016, 07:15PM

Kodi craps out after playing a video. I too am watching for the official release. This ROM is pretty solid.

  • Comment by TheCritter | Monday, Jan 11 2016, 11:13AM

It's ok, but not very good. DTS-HD Sound does not work with 23.976 fps (I have dropouts every 5sec). With 60fps works HD sound fine, but the video is not smooth. Sound have a delay if you skip/jump in time in Kodi

Well, can't we have best of both worlds, I mean Android 5.1.1 and Ubuntu 15.04 as dualboot? Somehow I couldn't update both. I loaded dualboot config from a previous update and system image from this update. Somehow it didn't work. I couldn't switch between android and linux, also android had glitches, like it didn't see my external hdd properly. I had to update to 5.1.1 with this update and lost linux. Is there a way to do it?

  • Comment by cjeman | Monday, Jan 11 2016, 08:53PM

Kerim. The flashing guide has which config to use for dual boot (config_dualboot.cfg). I have reflashed mine a few times.

  • Comment by Kerim | Monday, Jan 11 2016, 10:20PM

Just to be sure. This download has no config_dualboot.cfg in the compressed archive. UT3S_dualboot_3.1 archive has one. I loaded the config file from that package, and tried to use android images from this archive but could not succeed. Can anyone be kind to describe how to flash as dualboot with 5.1.1 and 15.04? Which image from which package should I use?

  • Comment by cjeman | Tuesday, Jan 12 2016, 12:18AM

Kerim.. I see, you did an Android only flash. I too am waiting for a dual boot of Android 5.1.1 and Ubuntu 15.04. Ugoos will post it when they have it completed. Keep an eye on the Ugoos download page for the device.

I think its time for a new version. Maybe before X-Mas or as X-Mas present?

Dear people, Iv'e tried to flash to te beta software over and over but i can't get it to work. Ik get the android tool running, and the device found, no problem so far. Then however the firmwares from 2.08 and up are not in one file anymore. So the procedure in the guide doens'nt work anymore. I tried the version with the right click and then only selecting teh config file and then pressed run, it completes an procedure but the device doensn't boot up on the tv after that. Also i tried to select each different image filein the variuos boxes and then pressed run, also a comleted procedure but no booting on the tv. The last i tried was an combination of the various image files in the various boxes and the config file selected and then run, same result. Completed procedure but no booting on the tv when connected. Can someone please give me an step by step guide for updating to the beta firmwares. i'm no novice but somehow i'm keep screwing up on this one...

Dave.. Sounds like you are doing things right. Running the Androidtool with the default config should have items 1&2, 4-9 checked with the proper files within the various subdirectories filled in. Loader is RK3288Ubootloader_v2.19.10.bin, etc. I ran this and have had no problems. The flash guide helps. Hang in there.

I have found the perfect setting. Kodi extracted from this ROM and Wasser v3.0.3 ROM. All very smooth, HD sound works great with 23,976fps too and 3D works great

  • Comment by Noldus | Tuesday, Jan 19 2016, 06:49PM

@Cjeman, thnx. I got it up and running, haha victory is mine!! However i ran into a new, bit more complicatied, problem. I got it installed and hooked it up on my TV, no image, tv simply says "no signal" on HDMI input. If i hook it up to my other TV on HDMI it works pefectly. My main TV is an 4K Philips 55PUK7150 (2015 line, runs on Android TV) and my other tv (the one that works) is a simple Philips Full HD led flatscreen from a 2014 series or something. So there is an problem with teh HDMI handshake i geuss. If i run the 2.0.7 and the 2.0.8 firmware it works of both TV's. The problem therfor is in the new firmware, and not the TV. Ugoos look into this please! Oh and on the Beta part; if gone into the market and i try to navigate back out, it hangs itself with a distorted and frozen screen. It's not yet completly stable...

@thecritter, did you install the Wasser 3.0.3 rom? Or did you Frankenstein something into an special product?

  • Comment by cjeman | Wednesday, Jan 20 2016, 07:14AM

Dave.. Glad you worked through the install. My TV is 1080P. I bought the UT3S because it is suppose to support 4K. I do notice that Kodi hangs on completion of a video. Ugoos is suppose to be assembling a dual boot with Ubuntu. The upgrade comes with a branded Kodi. Maybe Ugoos will tweak it.

  • Comment by Dave | Saturday, Jan 23 2016, 01:10AM

Hi y'all, I got everything up and running finally. I can confirm that it runs at 4K. My tv recognized it as so. Haven't played a file yet though at 4k, but the signal is there. Did anyone get the Fireeasy remote app working on the 3.0.2b firmware? I tried just about everything but my galaxy note 4 isn't connecting in the remote app. It does however connect in the Bluetooth settings. Any suggestions? I can't get the play store running because the crappy standard remote that came with the ut3s doesn't let me select all the buttons on the screen. So "next" in the login procedure isn't detectable... Again the question, any suggestions. (Maybe Ugoos itself can provide an answer for once, would be a first!)thnx for the help so far y'all!

Thanks for this lollipop update. - I can't update Kodi with Kodi Update. - I can't hear sound using 3.5 mm jack. - Playing mp4 with MX player with installed codec is slow. Playing same file with Kodi is fine. Keep on the good work!

Hi, this version does not work again, HBO GO Czech (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hbogo.v3.czech.slovakia&hl=cs). When you try to play the message "To continue playing, remove the special screen". In the previous version (Android 4.4) this problem. I do not suppose maker app, this restriction is removed. You can set the system again so that the application did not identify television as another screen, but only as a primary - like screen phone or tablet? Otherwise, this version looks good, especially switching audio passtrough is user-friendly resolved. Thanks

I received the UT3S yesterday. I was planning on updating both Ubuntu and Android once I got the system up and running. Once I attempted to update Ubuntu inside the UGOOS it failed. Now it will not boot into Ubuntu. So, I now have a single boot system. I have attempted to reflash the system with the latest tools but i cannot load the driver on two Windows 7 machines I have tried. This system is total crap and tech support is a nightmare. Someone help me flash this system.

  • Comment by brian | Friday, Nov 27 2015, 10:25PM

I get this error message... "match device type failed, stop running !" I have been flashing for many years now and have never seen this error. Any ideas? Why is this update using a different tool and method as the previous roms?

I have not had much time on this beta yet, but it is very promising. The windowed feature is very nice and so far, seems to be working well. The screenshot feature is also a nice bit of work. I have only begun to explore this beta, but I am growing fond of it already. Nice work Team Ugoos.

I installed this firmware 5.1.1 3.0.2 b succesfully on my UT3S (4GB/32GB). looks nice, but I cannot get sound on my TV (using HDMI). Sound option is set to HDMI bitstream. How can I get sound back?

  • Comment by TheCritter | Monday, Dec 14 2015, 05:25PM

    - On Kodi HD Sound over HDMI stutter/have pause any 5-10sec with 24fps (not on 60Hz) - 3Diso Files on Kodi only HD Audio Out. I have HD Audio disable on settings - video playback is not smooth in 60Hz

The version of Kodi with this release eliminates the audio cut offs with both HDMI & SPDIF on my UT3S (4GB/32GB) that I was experiencing with earlier releases. Although, I do not like custom versions of Kodi, This works well. I hope that you guys can incorporate what you did in 15.2 RC-1 into current versions of Kodi.

Please I Just want to know if ut3s is egal or better than nvidia shield

  • Comment by Budweiserfrogie | Monday, Dec 21 2015, 05:11AM

Hi, Am I correct in thinking that this firmware has custom kodi already included? I see some sound problems mentioned. Is this happening on the custom or standard kodi. Would I have problems trying to use standard kodi 15 or 16?

  • Comment by cjeman | Monday, Dec 21 2015, 06:30PM

Budweiserfrogie.. You need to stay with the custom Kodi to eliminate the audio issues. Let's hope they can provide the fix to a group that can incorporate into the mainstream versions.

What am I missing in the flashing sequence? I've downloaded the files from the link in this thread, unzipped them, updated the drivers, got my UT3s to connect but I don't see the image files in the parent folder. What image file am I supposed to point at to upgrade my firmware?

  • Comment by cjeman | Tuesday, Dec 22 2015, 04:09AM

Jeremy. There is a user guide .pdf in the subdirectory. You have to run the androidtool. The user guide tells you what to do. It works quite well.
